ADMINISTRATION

 

Church Board

The Church Board is the policy-making body of the church. Headed by the senior pastor, the board consists of key department heads and the spiritual leadership of the church. The board meets monthly to consider financial and business matters, program proposals, and develop the master activity calendar. The board also formulates the strategic goals of the church. The major BOL ministry committees and departments are listed below. Ministry leaders who serve on the board are noted by asterisk (*).

 

Board of Elders*

Members of this board consist of the pastoral staff and local ordained elders. They focus on matters related to worship and the spiritual development/health of the church and congregation. All elders are board members. Also see PASTORAL STAFF.

 

Church Clerk*

This office maintains the records of the church and its members, including the membership roster, membership transfer requests, baby blessings, baptismal records, and minutes taken at board and church business meetings.

 

Communication*

This office has both internal and external functions. Internally, it keeps the congregation informed of important business matters of the church as well as activities relative to the life of the church. The communication director utilizes print and web-based tools to facilitate timely communication, including the church bulletin, the monthly BOL Connections newsletter, this website, as well as social networking online resources.

 

Finance Committee*

This committee has primary fiduciary responsibility on behalf of the church. It works in close collaboration with the church treasurer to develop the annual budget, monitor the budget, provide financial updates to the board and coordinate audits performed by the Southern California Conference.

 

Risk Management*

The office identifies and evaluates all matters, proposals and conditions that may pose a fiscal, safety and/or security risk to the church and its members.

 

Treasury*

Headed by the church treasurer, the Treasury processes all funds collected at the weekly services, pays invoices, and prepares monthly financial statements for review by the Finance Committee and the Church Board. The treasurer works closely with the Finance Committee on all budget matters.

 

INREACH, WORSHIP & SERVICE

 

Children’s Ministries*

This ministry focuses on the spiritual development of the children through a wide range of fun activities, including Bible games, “Children’s Church,” and outdoor Sabbath activities. READ MORE

 

Deacon Board*

The deacons care for the church property; prepare for baptism, communion; assist with member visitation; care for the sick and poor; and serve as mentors to young males.

 

Deaconess Board*

The deaconesses prepare for communion and baptism; assist with member visitation; care for the sick and poor; and serve as mentors for young ladies.

 

Dining Committee

This committee provides food service for monthly church luncheons as well as holiday and special events.

 

Education Ministries

This department fosters academic excellence among youth and adults and provides scholarships for students who desire the benefits of Christian education as provided by Adventist schools. The department conducts an annual Education Emphasis Day as well as workshops and support resources for students and their parents.

 

Family Life Ministries*

This ministry focuses on building relationships, bonding and fellowship in the church family. Some activities focus on the needs of married couples, parents and children, and all members of the broader church family. The committee sponsors churchwide retreats, relationship workshops, social activities and Valentine’s excursions for married couples.

 

FotoClub

The BOL FotoClub is composed of members and friends who have an interest in photography and would like to improve their skills. Members meet almost monthly, plan shooting excursions, share tips and critique each other's work. The club also covers the photography needs of the church for all special occasions, services and events for posting on the Church's website and its various publications and promotional materials.

 

Health Ministries*

This ministry’s goal is to promote optimal health and fitness among the members. The committee plans medical, public health and dietary presentations, and a physical fitness series. READ MORE

 

Hospitality Committee

This committee rolls out the welcome mat each Sabbath, greeting members and friends. Committee members also coordinate arrangements for visitors to enjoy a meal and fellowship after worship.

 

Interest Coordinator*

This ministry follows up with visitors and attempts to nurture a relationship with them.

 

Men’s Ministries*

BOL’s Men-2-Life Ministries cultivates relationships with the men of BOL and plans activities that foster their spiritual development, including vesper and prayer sessions, mentoring opportunities, and even job seminars. READ MORE.

 

Music Ministry*

BOL has an outstanding musical ministry that enhances the worship experience of its members. Musical diversity is the core of BOL’s uniqueness. READ MORE.

 

Pathfinders*

Much like the Boys and Girls Scouts, the Pathfinders Club trains junior youth in various disciplines that build character. Activities include camping, crafts, nature exploration, Bible study, witnessing, bike-a-thons, and field trips. READ MORE

 

Photo Club

These shutterbugs enjoy fellowship and share artistic and creative expression via excursions. They meet to share tips and techniques to improve their photography skills.

 

Prayer Ministry

This ministry promotes the power of prayer in the life of the members, their extended families, and the church. BOL’s annual PrayerSummit reinforces the power of intercession.

 

Sabbath School*

This is the instructional arm of the church, often referred to the “church at study.” The Sabbath School is committed to exploring biblical and doctrinal truth and showing how biblical principles can be practically applied to promote one’s spiritual growth. The Sabbath School offers classes and programs for all age groups.

 

Singles Ministry

This ministry provides opportunities for single adults to fellowship and nurture each other spiritually and socially. Various activities include Bible study and social/recreational excursions.

 

Social Committee

This committee fosters fellowship among members through its various social events, including the annual holiday party, game nights, picnics, and old-fashioned church socials.

 

Stewardship Committee*

This committee promotes the principles of individual and corporate stewardship—that is, all things belong to God, even our “selves.” And God expects us to be responsible stewards over every resource with which He has entrusted to us: our time, talents, temple (body), and treasure.

 

Usher Board

Ushers maintain the orderly seating and exiting of worshipers and attend to their needs to enhance their worship experience.

 

Women’s Ministries*

This vital ministry fosters spiritual growth and renewal among women and cultivates interpersonal relationships. The ministry achieves this through an array of programs, including the annual prayer brunch, women’s retreat, prayer and Bible study groups, outreach to women’s shelters, and an annual holiday event. Youth Ministries*

This ministry nurtures the spiritual and social development of the youth at BOL. Activities include Friday evening youth vesper, Adventist Youth programs, youth Sabbath School, and social activities.

 

OUTREACH, EVANGELISM & SERVICE

 

Community Services*

This department coordinates outreach programs that directly address human service needs in the community. These include homeless feeding programs, care for needy families, community Bible studies, month visitations and praise services at local retirement homes, and mentoring and nurturing programs in the at-risk communities.

 

Media Ministries

BOL produces a weekly radio broadcast, Joy of Faith, each Sunday at 12:30 p.m. over KKLA-FM 99.5, which covers the greater Los Angeles region. The church also plans to launch other media ministries, including Internet programming.

 

Personal Ministries*

This vital ministry provides the tools, resources and training necessary to empower BOL members to become more effective personal evangelists and witnesses for the Lord. With its theme, “WON by One,” the PM Committee sponsors workshops and training sessions, provides literature, and encourages members to share their creative ways of sharing the gospel with others. Prison Ministry

Sharing the gospel and words of encouragement and hope with those behind bars is the primary goal of this specialized ministry. Leaders provide training and opportunities to enable members to effective witness to the prison population.

It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
